About the Role

Charged with ensuring that our students are ready to provide their best effort on the ACT and with assisting them in developing the skills they will need to succeed. Candidates must thoroughly understand each of the four ACT sections and be very data-driven and growth-oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Academic Support
    • Teach all subjects in light of ACT requirements: math, reading, language arts, and science.
    • Establish specific goals for each class, topic, and project and inform students of those goals.
    • Assist students with homework, providing added teaching, and strengthening grade-level skills.
    • Provide students with supplemental academic content, especially in reading and math.
    • Develop and apply hands-on learning techniques, games, etc., to reinforce academic skills.
  • Activities
    • Read with students and encourage engagement in reading.
    • Create and oversee art projects or STEM experiential learning projects to reinforce learning and create interest and excitement.
    • With the Youth Prosperity Program Manager, develop mechanisms for engaging student families in The Academy program and student learning.
  • Supervision
    • Develop, maintain, and adjust a weekly plan for The Academy and activities in coordination with the Program Manager.
    • Oversee daily dismissal, ensuring that no student is released to an adult other than one pre-registered as cleared for that student's pickup.
    • Ensure that the classroom is tidied and ready for other programs at the end of each session.
  • Evaluation
    • Conduct baseline testing of students and monitor progress.
    • Provide individual or group evaluations to the Youth Prosperity Program Manager as appropriate.

Schedule

Standard days of work are Monday through Thursday, 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years' experience teaching K-12 age students.
  • Must possess strong teaching skills.
  • Ability to explain and instruct students at a basic level.
  • Strong knowledge in content area of choice, demonstrated through lesson planning, execution, and intervention with all students.
  • Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
