About the role

City Year, an AmeriCorps program, helps students succeed by providing support to students, classrooms, and the whole school. City Year AmeriCorps members focus on coaching and mentoring students in elementary, middle, and high schools.

Role and responsibilities

  • Coach and mentor students individually and in small groups.
  • Develop literacy and/or math skills through various learning activities tailored to each student's level.
  • Create and implement a behavior management system for students.
  • Collaborate with teachers and school staff to monitor and analyze student progress.
  • Create an engaging, safe, and healthy classroom environment.
  • Support extended day and virtual programming for students.
  • Create, lead, or co-lead events or programs to recognize student achievements.

Qualifications

  • Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  • Be between 17 and 25 years old by July 1, 2025.
  • Have a GED, high school diploma, some college experience, or a college degree.
  • Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program.
  • Agree to and complete a background check.
  • Be able to start City Year by July/August 2025.
