Academic Tutor

About the role

This is an ideal opportunity for certified teachers, subject-matter experts, graduate students, or experienced educators who are passionate about helping students build confidence and achieve measurable academic growth.

Responsibilities

- Provide one-on-one academic tutoring in core subjects (Math, English Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and/or Foreign Languages) - Support students with homework, study skills, executive functioning, and test preparation - Develop individualized learning plans based on student needs and assessment results - Track student progress and provide regular updates to families - Foster a positive, encouraging, and professional learning environment - Travel to students’ homes (Upper Manhattan and/or the Bronx) or conduct virtual sessions

Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or teaching certification preferred - Strong subject-matter expertise in at least one core academic area - Prior teaching or tutoring experience (classroom, private tutoring, or small-group instruction) - Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners - Excellent communication and organizational skills - Reliable transportation (for in-person tutoring assignments) - Authorized to work in the United States

Qualifications

A qualified applicant will have a bachelor’s degree and will also meet at least one of the following criteria: - You hold a valid NY State teaching certificate or the equivalent thereof - You are a current student teacher; pursuing a teaching certificate - You have 2 or more years experience as a classroom teacher in a private or charter school. - You have experience as a lecturer/course instructor at an accredited U.S. University or College - You are a Master's/PhD student with experience as a teaching assistant at an accredited U.S. University or College
