Academic Surgical Pathologist

Academic Surgical Pathologist position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, Irvine.

About the Role

The successful candidate will serve as an Academic Surgical Pathologist with subspecialty training or demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• Gastrointestinal Pathology
• Cardiovascular Pathology (including Transplant Pathology)
• Thoracic/Lung Pathology
• Renal Pathology
• Autopsy Pathology

Candidates with expertise in Breast, Head and Neck, or Gynecological Pathology will also be considered. The academic appointment may be in the Health Sciences (HS) Clinical or Clinical X series, depending on experience and research/teaching effort.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care in surgical pathology, including on-call duty and frozen section coverage.
• Teach and mentor fellows, residents, and medical students.
• Perform public and University service, including service on departmental and hospital committees.
• Contribute to scholarly activities, with a focus on clinical and/or translational research (especially for Clinical X series).

Incumbents in the Clinical X series are expected to conduct substantial research and demonstrate excellent teaching.

Requirements

• MD, DO, or MD/PhD degree.
• Board-certified or board-eligible in Anatomic Pathology.
• Eligible for, or currently hold, a medical license in the state of California.
• Significant experience and/or fellowship training in surgical pathology.
• Commitment to education and a record in clinical and/or translational research.

Pay

Total negotiated salary ranges from $260,000 to $415,000, based on AAMC salary benchmarks for Anatomic Pathology. This position includes membership in the health science compensation plan, which provides eligibility for additional compensation.

Location

This position serves UCI Health, including the 400+ bed Douglas Hospital in Orange, a new hospital and outpatient complex on the Irvine campus, and several community hospitals and outpatient clinics throughout Orange County. UCI is located in Orange County, one of the most desirable locations in the U.S.
