About the role

The Academic Personnel Specialist supports the School of Natural Sciences' Personnel Unit in academic recruitments, advancement processes, and other personnel actions. This role works closely with faculty committees, chairs, and other academic appointments.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles, reviews, and processes materials for academic review and appointment cases.
  • Provides support to faculty committees and/or chairs.
  • Enters and retrieves data using various Human Resources Information Systems.
  • Supports faculty search committees, chairs, Faculty Equity Advisors, and the Dean on job postings, recruiting, and hiring policies and procedures.
  • Counsels faculty and other academic appointments concerning work-related problems, visa matters, benefits considerations, and non-student and temporary academic appointments.
  • Assists with administering policies and programs in academic reviews, recruiting, instructional labor relations, wage and salary administration, onboarding, offboarding, and training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Human Resources, Business Law, Management, or other related areas, and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • One year of directly related experience in a human resources discipline, or academic personnel, or a combination of education and experience as outlined.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP (Preferred).

Skills

  • Basic knowledge of and ability to apply / interpret organization and college policies and procedures which govern academic HR.
  • Knowledge of the organization, college, and departmental formal and informal policies and procedures and understanding of variances to stated policies.
  • Knowledge of human resources management systems and other related business software programs and systems.
  • Knowledge of unit academic culture and educational goals of discipline(s) served.
  • Analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations to Chairs / unit management.
  • Demonstrated organization, problem solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with conflicting and changing priorities.
