Academic Mentor

About the role

Provide individual and small group tutoring to students. Assist students in improving academic achievement by meeting with them on a regular basis to identify learning challenges and improving study skills. Tutoring is a supplement to classroom teaching.

Responsibilities

• Assist student-athletes with continued higher education skill development including time management, writing, reading, organizational, communication, study, and test preparation
• Develop support plans based on student needs
• Meet with students once or twice per week during designated times to create task sheets and work on skill development
• Generate weekly plans with athletes emphasizing both long-term and short-term goal setting
• Work with the mentor team to schedule subject-specific tutors if the need arises
• Generate reports following each mentor session to follow progress and accountability
• Utilize various computer programs as needed to track student progress

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience)
• Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills
• Must pass a Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) background check
• Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description

$11.00 per hour
