Essential Job Functions

  • Assists and guides students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
  • Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.
  • Affords assistance in the administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests, and assessments.
  • Affords assistance in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.
  • Affords assistance in record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
  • Affords assistance in classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task.
  • Affords assistance in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas.
  • Affords assistance on field trips for the purpose of assisting with supervision.
  • Affords assistance in constructing, copying, and distributing educational materials as needed.
  • Affords assistance in parent contact as requested to foster effective and participatory parent involvement in student education.
  • Affords assistance in students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion, learning, achievement if IEP objectives, etc.
  • Affords participation in IEP process and serves as a resource for the student personnel evaluation team as needed.
  • Affords assistance to students with physical or mental disabilities with activities of daily living for the purpose of maximizing their ability to participate in school or learning activities.

Additional Duties

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Educational and Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of 90 college credits from an accredited college or university, required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Valid Michigan teacher’s certificate preferred.
  • Experience working with students with diverse learning needs.
  • An understanding of working with content standards or willingness to learn.
  • Able to demonstrate understanding of curriculum development processes.
  • Able to develop and maintain positive relationships with staff, students, and administration.
  • Able to support general education instructional staff.
