Academic Interventionist - Elementary (Immediate)

About the Role
The Academic Interventionist works directly with students to provide tutoring, coaching, goal-setting, and academic case management to achieve measurable improvements in academic performance. This role supports elementary and middle school students across KIPP Capital Region schools.
Responsibilities
- Instructional Intervention
- Develop academic lesson plans based on students' individual learning needs, ensuring interventions are engaging and enable learning and recall through varied exposures (e.g., seeing, hearing, touching).
- Use data to facilitate students’ improvement and increase engagement through KIPP’s blended learning programs.
- Provide students with daily feedback on mastery performance in character and academics.
- Facilitate collaborative, socially-centered intervention to help students build skills through team-based learning.
- Lead small-group tutoring, coaching, goal-setting, and academic case management to bridge gaps in students’ understanding.
- Demonstrate strong pedagogy and authentic interest in the academic growth and development of students.
- Blended Learning Connections
- Collect and enter student data on academic gains and other outcome targets.
- Complete all required documentation, including forms, grade checks, assessments, and attendance records.
- Organize work daily, weekly, and monthly to meet key deadlines and policies.
- Communicate student progress to core-content teachers as needed.

- Work collaboratively with school teams and across KIPP Capital Region.
- Help develop school-wide culture tailored to students, teachers, and families.
- Attend and participate in all staff meetings and maintain open communication with staff.
- Develop positive rapport with students and foster a positive, calm learning environment.
- Enforce and uphold school values, student management policies, and culture.
- Be available for critical school events, including staff meetings, open houses, and parent-teacher conferences.

- Establish and maintain strong communication with parents and share student progress.
- Be available for open houses, parent-teacher conferences, and other parent events.

- Assist lead teachers by problem-solving classroom issues with a solution-focused approach.
- Participate in school-wide and individual professional development, including pre-service training over the summer and weekly sessions during the academic year.
- Administrative and Compliance Duties
- Perform routine administrative tasks, such as preparing reports, correspondence, copying, filing, answering phones, and managing data.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including those from the NYS Department of Education, Department of Health, and NYS Office of Children and Family Services.
- Adhere to organization policies and procedures, supporting KIPP’s mission, vision, and values.
- Perform other duties as assigned by school leadership and the Senior Director of Scholar Support Services.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (required).
- Valid NYS Teaching Licensure or willingness to pursue state certification (required).
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a school educator, preferably in a charter or public school environment.
- Prior experience working in schools and urban communities (preferred but not required).
- Ability to work a flexible schedule outside of regular business hours.
- Aptitude to create and work within an inclusive environment that honors and supports diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.

Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities.
- Specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, use fingers to type, handle objects/tools, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop/bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Dexterity to write and operate standard office machines (e.g., computers, printers, phones).
- Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 20 pounds.

Pay
KIPP Capital Region offers a competitive salary ranging from $56,000 to $76,669. Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role and longevity within the KIPP network. New hires are placed within the teacher salary scale at the point of hire.
