About the role

The Joliet Job Corps Center in Joliet, IL is seeking a professional and caring individual to join their team. The center provides quality services to local youth and values its dedicated staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic instruction to students in accordance with approved curricula.
  • Provide basic direction, instruction, and assistance in designated area of instruction.
  • Motivate and counsel students in areas of behavior, training, personal problems, or study habits.
  • Cookordination with counselors and staff as necessary to resolve issues affecting student training.
  • Develop and prepare lessons in accordance with approved curriculum guidelines; recommend curricula changes and supplemental materials.
  • Maintain an organized, clean training environment conducive to learning.
  • Participate on student assessment panels; perform required documentation.
  • Administer and correct tests; maintain progress and attendance reports including required CIS updates.
  • Control use of equipment and supplies; recommend purchases.
  • Develop and conduct enrichment programs as assigned.
  • Utilize workplace language and behavior expectations in the classroom; relate academic skills to career training and workplace requirements.
  • Inquire if individual students need assistance.
  • Assist in student behavior management programs.
  • Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps' Zero Tolerance Policy.
  • Participate in student employability programs and activities.
  • Promote the development of career success standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary, and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.
  • Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, valid teaching certificate in state of employment, and one year related experience.
  • Experience with youth.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer proficiency required.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Qualified candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team, possess strong organizational and communication skills, and have a passion for helping young people succeed.
