UAB’s Division of General Internal Medicine and Population Science seeks academic general internists whose interests span clinical internal medicine and medical education. The division integrates clinical care, education, research, and community partnerships to improve health outcomes.
About the role
We are expanding clinical services: inpatient general internal medicine, the resident continuity clinic, ambulatory faculty practices at university and county sites, and a faculty transitional/complex-care clinic. Open-rank, full-time, 12-month clinician-educator faculty positions are available at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level.
Responsibilities
- Direct patient care in outpatient settings at any division site
- Attending on inpatient general internal medicine teaching services at UAB Hospital or the Birmingham VA Medical Center
- Outpatient resident precepting at UAB, the Birmingham VA Medical Center, and/or Cooper Green Mercy Health System
- Didactic and small-group teaching of medical students and residents
- Mentorship of residents and medical students
- Participation in the Division’s medical-education scholarship and graduate medical education committees
- Small- and large-group teaching in educational conferences and morning reports
Faculty with education-fellowship training or clinician-educator experience may qualify for leadership roles or protected teaching time. While research is not required, the division supports medical-education scholarship, quality improvement, population health, and health-services research.
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree
- Board-certified or board-eligible in Internal Medicine
- Eligible for an unrestricted Alabama medical license
