Academic Coordinator/Residential Counselor
The Academic Coordinator/Residential Counselor role is located in Woodland Hills, CA at our newly launching six bed residential treatment program for autistic teens. This position blends providing direct care to autistic teens with working with teens and families and coordinating academic support while in treatment.
- Work alongside a collaborative, mission-driven team in a supportive residential treatment setting.
- This position is a full time onsite role from 10am - 6:30pm Monday - Friday.
Responsibilities
- Academic Coordinator (50% of role)
Partner with a multidisciplinary team to support students’ academic success
Develop individualized learning plans and goals for each client
Provide 1:1 tutoring and create positive learning experiences
Collaborate with families and schools, including participation in IEP/504 meetings
Help parents advocate for their child’s educational needs
Coordinate with teachers and counselors to ensure academic continuity
Provide weekly academic progress updates to families
Interpret transcripts and guide families on options such as GED, virtual school, community college, and vocational programs
Facilitate study skills groups as needed
Complete necessary documentation and communication with stakeholders
- Residential Counselor (50% of role)
Provide direct supervision and ensure client safety at all times
Build supportive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries
Guide clients through daily schedules, enforce program expectations
Implement individualized behavioral interventions and safety protocols
Conduct risk assessments, body/room checks, and document observations
Facilitate psychoeducational groups and complete required notes
Communicate effectively during shift changes
Participate in weekly Treatment Team meetings and trainings
Transport clients to appointments and outings using a company vehicle
Maintain a clean, organized, and therapeutic environment
Report clinical, medical, or safety concerns to the appropriate team members
Complete documentation in Kipu and any required incident or mandated reports
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Comfortable tutoring
- High School English and Algebra
- Passion for supporting teens with mental health needs
- Ability to remain calm and effective in crisis situations
- Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills
- Knowledge of IEP and 504 plans, or willingness to learn
- Ability to pass LiveScan and all required background checks
- Willingness to work on-site in Woodland Hills and interact with COVID-positive clients if needed
- Valid driver’s license and ability to transport clients
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience tutoring middle or high school students
- Experience working with autistic adolescents
- Background in customer service or youth-focused roles
