About the role

The Department of Communication and Journalism is seeking a coordinator to serve in multiple capacities: Graduate Advisor, Scheduler, Internship Coordinator, and Ambassador Coordinator. This position will work closely with the Department Administrator and Graduate Directors to provide guidance on day-to-day programmatic tasks related to graduate student success, including assisting faculty and graduate students with the implementation of policies and procedures supporting graduate student processes. The coordinator will manage the recruitment, intake, and provision of administrative services for the departmental Graduate Program and provide associated support services to faculty and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Graduate Advisor: Provide guidance on graduate student processes and assist with policy implementation.
  • Scheduler: Serve as the lead for the department scheduler, working closely with the Department Chair and Department Administrator to enter courses and maintain the Department Enrollment Status Report (DESR) on a semester-by-semester basis while adhering to budget guidelines set by the College.
  • Internship Coordinator: Oversee all components of internships, including ensuring proper documentation is completed, verifying student eligibility, establishing and maintaining relationships with firms in the Albuquerque community, and collaborating with faculty mentors to ensure students meet requirements.
  • Ambassador Coordinator: Act as the liaison between C&J student Ambassadors and the Albuquerque high school community to schedule and coordinate outreach presentations for recruitment of prospective students. Serve as backup for fiscal administration, including budgets, funding contracts and grants, payroll, purchasing, reimbursements, and overall fiscal planning. Also serve as time entry for the department.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution above the minimum education requirement may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Qualifications

  • Strong ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and facilitate special events and meetings.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems independently.
  • Experience and familiarity with graduate student policies and procedures.
  • Ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in higher education working with faculty, students, and members of the general public.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
