Academic Advisor III
Salary
The annual salary for this position ranges from $52,200 to $57,300. The final offer will be commensurate with the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.
Purpose of Position
Provide direct academic advising to individuals or groups of advisees to enhance the academic experience, student retention and completion. Assists with the administration and coordination of one or more essential academic advising program(s) or initiative(s). Assists with the training and onboarding of new academic advisors and may provide supervision of a small team of advisors and support staff.
Essential Functions
- Counsels students on academic topics such as degree requirements, relevant course selection, and assists students in setting and achieving educational and career goals.
- Monitors the academic progress of a student caseload. This includes proactive outreach to provide students with just-in-time assistance.
- Verifies degree progress, removes holds, and approves various forms to ensure timely student progression.
- Analyzes and interprets student data, transcripts, and placement results.
- Enters advising notes into MyMav following best practices for documenting student appointments/contacts.
- Oversees and implements advising best-practices, communicates program requirements, creates reports, and continuously improves and assesses the program.
- Speaks to various constituencies representing the university and academic advising community (e.g., students, advisors, parents, faculty, administrators, etc.) regarding the advising process, orientation, and other activities.
- Trains and supervises new academic advisors and a small team of advisors and support staff.
- Maintains a clear understanding of all applicable federal, state, and University policies and procedures.
- Keeps abreast of relevant academic programs and supports services such as counseling and tutoring within a College and University and provides appropriate referrals to students.
- Participates in meetings, professional conferences, and individual professional development.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- A Master’s degree and four (4) years of experience working with college students in an academic advising capacity or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Four (4) years of progressive academic advising experience at a public R1 University.
- Leadership and/or supervisory experience at an institution of higher education.
- Experience implementing, monitoring, and assessing student development programs/projects.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- High-impact academic advising practices; CAS standards; and university academic advising practices.
- Federal, state, and local policies and procedures governing academic advising functions, including probation, dismissal, and reinstatement processes; college/school major and degree requirements; and resources provided by academic advising associations such as NACADA and TEXAAN.
- Working knowledge of and ability to effectively utilize the University Catalog.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students and colleagues from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds, and experiences.
Work Schedule
Monday through Friday; 8:00am through 5:00pm Telework environment (remote & office). This role includes occasional after-hours and weekend responsibilities depending on the season, workload, and special events.
Ability to Travel
May travel to different campus locations, or offsite events (10%).
