Academic Advisor II

Permanent, full-time EHRA non-faculty position within the College of Engineering, Academic Affairs. Work schedule is 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours as necessary.

About the role

This position serves undergraduate and graduate students within the Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Engineering Technology, and Applied Energy and Electromechanical Engineering programs, as well as students in transition, prospective high school, and transfer students into these programs. Using a developmental advising model, advisors help students develop the knowledge, skills, and personal accountability needed to explore academic and co-curricular options, evaluate and track their own progress toward graduation, access support and enrichment services, and understand university policies and timelines.

Advising services include individual and small-group meetings, email, and virtual interactions. Advisors also provide orientation to new students, support to first-generation and transfer students, intervention programs for at-risk students, and services to graduate students. The role involves collaboration with faculty, participation in university events, generating reports on academic progression, processing degree clearance, and developing a thorough knowledge of campus support services.

Responsibilities

• Academic advising using a developmental model tailored to individual student needs.
• Monitor at-risk students and develop/oversee Student Action Plans for those on Academic Probation.
• Collaborate with Program Directors to implement academic success initiatives to proactively retain at-risk students.
• Provide student services support to graduate students in Engineering Technology programs.
• Collaborate with faculty to provide additional information, services, and programming to majors.
• Generate reports on academic progression and graduation-oriented advising.
• Process degree clearance for undergraduate students.
• Develop a thorough working knowledge of campus support services and referral processes.
• Participate in new student orientations, Admitted Students Days, Open House Events, Discover Engineering Day, and other events as necessary.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in academic advising, student services, higher education, engineering, or a related field.
• Three to five years of experience involving student academic advising in a higher education setting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of BANNER, Ellucian, Navigate 360, and/or DegreeWorks.
• Experience working with STEM majors.
• Experience working with medium to large student caseloads.
• Attentive to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to prioritize while multitasking.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal problem-solving skills.
• Ability to interact effectively with advisees, staff, and faculty.
• Understanding of federal and university student confidentiality requirements.
• Proficient use of computers (Google Suite, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Pay

$58,000 - $63,994 per year.
