Academic Advisor for Honors Program
Job Summary
The Honors Program Advisor is an energetic and collaborative member of the Pennoni Honors College. Serving approximately 1600 Honors Program students, the Honors Advisor is integral in supporting students in understanding Honors graduation requirements, probation processes, and helping students create their Honors plan of study.
Essential Functions
- Advises Honors Program students to help ensure achievement of Honors and Honors with Distinction requirements.
- Liaises with academic advisors in home departments to ensure students can pursue relevant course sequences in line with requirements of their plan of study.
- Aids students with scheduling so that they can properly fit relevant course sequences into their term-by-term schedule of classes.
- Onboards new Honors Program students admitted via the Current Student Application through communication plan and optional one-on-one and group advising.
- Communicates graduation clearance and probation status to Honors Program students quarterly.
- Oversees probation process for Honors Program students and works with students on probation to develop academic improvement plans.
- Aids in tracking Honors Program students' progress in moving through Program requirements.
- Aids in pulling OAS reports including but not limited to: class lists, class rosters, CPOS, probation, degree clearing, and bulk registration.
- Aids in student registration requests for course terms.
- Updates attributes for students in Degree Works in collaboration with AIS.
- Runs sophomore and junior review processes and informational sessions.
- Maintains advising records in university systems to catalog and ascertain status of students.
- Works with Honors Program staff to establish clear, consistent advising policies and procedures to ensure unified approach to student advising practices.
- Maintains monitoring and communicating Title IV compliance for Honors Program students.
- Be proficient and comfortable with technologies related to the academic advisor role.
- Supports students through developmental advising which includes: critical/ethical reasoning, goal setting, identifying / working through obstacles, and making referrals where appropriate.
- Effectively manage sensitive and private information - (Essential).
- Recruitment and retention initiatives:
- Participates in student recruitment events for the Honors College.
- Aids in reviewing incoming applications in ED, EA, and RD rounds for the Honors Program.
- Administrative and Academic Support:
- Aids in review and approval of Honors Options.
- Aids in special events programming including, but not limited to, Welcome Week and Honors Medallion Ceremony, and Senior Sendoff.
- Develops collaborative relationship with departments and units that offer services to support student success, including advisors, counselors, and other staff members.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or experience in Academic Advising with Honors education or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of principles and practices of organization, time management, record management, and general administration.
- Knowledge of academic advising tools and resources.
- Ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
Physical Demands
Typically sitting at a desk/table.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt, grade I. Compensation for this grade ranges from $45,330.00 - $68,000.00 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position will vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
