Rose State College seeks an Academic Advisor to support entering students in the Enrollment Management office.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with entering students to assist with enrollment and progress toward completion of an Associate’s Degree.
  • Collaborate with students and faculty to identify and address barriers related to student retention and graduation.
  • Provide overall advisement for entering students, including academic major selection and graduation planning.
  • Assist students with all aspects of the enrollment process, including schedule changes.
  • Refer students to campus resources such as tutoring, labs, Career Services, Disability Services, student clubs, and Financial Aid.
  • Provide case management services for identified cohorts of entering students.
  • Assist students with information on majors, career choices, and transfer options.
  • Support students during scholarship search, application, and award processes.
  • Maintain external relationships to bring services and opportunities to the College (e.g., SAT/OGET test prep, guest speakers).
  • Collaborate with faculty, administrators, campus departments, area high schools, and community agencies to meet student educational planning needs.
  • Assist in developing advisement approaches for diverse student populations, including minority, non-traditional, and at-risk students.
  • Build and sustain a culture of retention and completion.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Perform light physical tasks: lifting/carrying up to 10 lbs., reaching above shoulder, sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, and stooping.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Two (2) years of experience working in higher education with students.
  • Proven effectiveness in working with a diverse employee and external customer-based population.
  • Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Ability to multi-task, adhere to strict deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.
  • High degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling, Education, Student Services, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in a community college setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in academic advising or working with students.
  • Record of involvement in leadership development.

Must be eligible to work in the United States. The selected candidate will serve a probationary period and may be subject to a background check and/or drug test.
