Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide academic advising for degree-seeking students ensuring they are fully enrolled and meet class and graduation requirements.
- Assist students with course selection and class scheduling.
- Participate and assist in the development and implementation of student development programs and college recruiting activities.
- Assist students in assessing academic skills and interpreting placement testing.
- Contact students who have been determined to be academically at risk and design a program to improve academic success.
- Provide students with information regarding other institutions and transfer requirements.
- Offer comprehensive counseling services to students including academic and educational matters, short-term crisis counseling, and provide referral information for further mental health counseling.
- Work with the Accessibility & Starfish Manager/Counselor to monitor and assess the needs of the campus' overall mental health and provide services as needed.

- Deal effectively with a variety of individuals from varying backgrounds.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent and continuous sitting/moving about.
- Continuous use of fine motor skills.
- Pushing and pulling of up to 20 lbs.
Schedule Details
- Must be available to work 40 hrs. per week with normal work hours from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
- Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
Minimum Qualifications
- A Master's degree in counseling, social work or a related field is required.
- Must obtain NM Counseling licensure or NM Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) licensure within two (2) years from date of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in higher education environment related to student development or counseling is preferred.
