About the role

Hiring Department: Student Success Center
Job Description: Funded by a $752,096 annual grant from the U.S. Department of Education, the University of Missouri-Columbia’s TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) Program serves 670 eligible undergraduate participants each year.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an academic advisor for a caseload of TRiO SSS Participants.
  • Provide individualized support to TRiO SSS Participants for personal, career, and academic matters, including information, activities, and instruction on the range of career options available.
  • Engage with TRiO SSS Participants in actively assessing personal, career, and academic needs, setting goals related to those needs, and tracking progress.
  • Track and monitor academic progress, holds, enrollment and other indicators of student need and intervene when needed.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential electronic records of every student interaction, including in-person, phone, and online visits.
  • Collaborate with and serve as the liaison between the TRiO Student Support Services Program and partner academic units.
  • Serve on appropriate committees and represent TRiO at events, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Shift: Flexible hours with occasional evening and weekend events.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience as a participant in a pre-college or college TRiO Project, prior experience working for a TRiO Project or providing academic advising to first-generation college students, students from low-income backgrounds, and/or students with disabilities, demonstrated ability to relate to and the desire to work with first-generation college students, students from low-income backgrounds, and/or students with disabilities, Master’s degree in a relevant field.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Knowledge of TRiO SSS program policies and procedures.

Anticipated Hiring Range: Salary Range: $42,000 - $53,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience
