About the role
This position supports student success by functioning as an academic advisor for RIT students. Advisors collaborate with students to plan and support their academic journey, ensuring they meet degree requirements and achieve their long-term goals.
Responsibilities
- Maintains systematic and frequent contact with advisees to provide accurate information about academic progression and degree requirements.
- Affirms students' academic progress towards degree completion and advises on barriers to success.
- Assists students in evaluating progress towards established goals and updating degree audits.
- Coordinates with department chairs, deans, and university partners to ensure seamless support for students.
- Engages in college planning, implementation, and evaluation of the academic advisement program's goals and objectives.
- Participates in various university committees and professional development activities.
Requirements
- Master's degree in a related field.
- 2 years of related experience.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of academic advising principles and practices.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and confidentiality.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Working knowledge of RIT processes, programs, and resources.
Skills
- Excellent listening and interpersonal skills.
- Strong commitment to supporting all levels and backgrounds of students.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a broad constituency.
- Knowledge of research and theory related to college student development.
- Understanding of FERPA regulations.
- Working knowledge of effective decision-making and conflict resolution techniques.
