About the role
The purpose of this position is to support the mechanical and aerospace engineering degree programs (including site-based programs) and educational mission with teaching, undergraduate advising, scheduling and registration, recruitment and communications. This position reports directly to the Director of Undergraduate Advising.
Responsibilities
- Academic Advising & Student Support — 45% Serve as assigned advisor for MAE undergraduate students
Pre-registration advising (EFY and post-CODA students)
Course selection, academic requirements, and success strategies
Hold scheduled advising office hours
Assist with student registration and related paperwork - Advising Operations & Process Improvement — 15% Contribute to improvement of advising portals, materials, and processes
Provide support to advising office operations
Serve as a resource on academic policies and procedures - Student Engagement, Communication & Events — 15% Support departmental events (orientation, commencement, symposiums, info sessions)
Communicate opportunities, resources, and policies to students - Collaboration & Team Contribution — 10% Work collaboratively with MAE advising team
Cross-functional departmental support - Data, Reporting & Accreditation Support — 10% Assist with ABET data collection and reporting
Generate student/course reports for faculty and leadership - Scheduling & Administrative Support — 5% Provide backup support for course scheduling
Other administrative duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering related field; Post-baccalaureate credentials in an education or advising related field plus alternative professional training and experience may be substituted on an exceptional basis
- Experience mentoring, teaching and/or advising at a college level or in a professional setting
- Excellent interpersonal and advising skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of stakeholders under pressure while meeting competing deadlines
- Ability to interact with students at varying developmental stages in a confidential environment
- Comfortable speaking to large groups
- Appreciation for the various perspectives, identities, backgrounds, ages, and educational goals of modern undergraduate students
- Commitment to working in a team environment and willingness to support departmental initiatives
- Ability to review and interpret policies to make independent decisions within policy guidelines
