Join Philip Morris USA as an AC Utility Operator at our state-of-the-art manufacturing center in Richmond, VA. You’ll play a vital role in ensuring the safe, continuous, and efficient operation of building utility systems for key manufacturing and support facilities.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain manufacturing center building conditions and processes via a control-room environment, including:
- HVAC systems: air-washers and air-handlers with special attention to unique relative humidity and temperature parameters
- Process vacuum: production-required vacuum across multiple manufacturing environments
- Utilities systems: steam, compressed-air, chilled water, medium-temperature hot water, and city water; monitor critical setpoints (temperature, pressure, etc.)
- Critical sumps: storm, chilled water, and sanitary sumps
- Exhaust fans: various process, general, and kitchen exhaust fans
- Critical areas: UPS systems, data closets, computer rooms, and leak-detection tools
- Rotate redundant equipment to distribute run hours equally when backup units are available
- Follow a process control plan; maintain equipment operating logs and records
- Use a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to enter work orders, preventive-maintenance data, and generate repair notifications
- Respond to abnormal and emergency conditions and outages
- Work with maintenance teams and vendors to isolate systems for installations, inspections, and repairs
- Serve as backup for operating/monitoring chillers, air compressors, air dryers, cooling towers, chilled-water/cooling-tower-water chemistry, oil management and inventory, refrigerant management and transfer, and chemical staging and inventory
Requirements
- At least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the U.S. for Philip Morris USA
- Willing to work any shift, overtime, weekends, and holidays
- Strong safety orientation
- Current Universal CFC Certification (EPA Section 608)
- Excellent problem-solving abilities
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- High degree of initiative and conscientiousness
- 2+ years of experience in HVAC, utility systems, building management, or other relevant experience
Schedule
- Monday–Friday across three shifts:
- A-shift: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- B-shift: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
- C-shift: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Overtime on weekdays and weekends as needed for production, equipment maintenance, peer coverage, and HVAC filter changes
Pay
- Starting wage: $40.49 per hour
- Progresses to $44.99 per hour over 24 months
- Shift differential:
- $0.80 per hour for B-shift (3:00 PM – 11:00 PM)
- $1.00 per hour for C-shift (11:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
