Aba Counselor-Education Overview

The ABA Counselor-Education is responsible for providing educational instruction to assigned individuals in a structured classroom environment designed to promote intellectual, emotional, and social growth. Responsibilities include assisting in the implementation of individualized programs appropriate to the ages and populations served, typically children and adolescents (ages 5-22 years) with autism, intellectual/developmental disabilities, and acquired brain injury. The position involves working with individuals who may exhibit aggressive and/or self-injurious behavior, requiring constant readiness to apply effective behavior analytic interventions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred; Minimum requirement of 50 College Credits
• A valid US driver’s license and a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old
• Must be capable of attaining approved Melmark driver status
• Prefer at least one (1) year experience with specialized populations

Responsibilities

• Maintains Level of Supervision (LOS) for assigned individual(s) at all times
• Requests assistance from a coworker or supervisor if assigned LOS cannot be maintained
• Implements all procedures as written in each individual’s Behavior Support Plan and/or Protocol Summary
• Accurately collects data on all targeted behaviors for acceleration and declaration on assigned individual(s)
• Responds appropriately during crisis using approved crisis management techniques
• Implements all procedures as written in each individual’s Teaching Plans
• Accurately collects data for all Teaching Plans at the time of the instructional session
• Attends and maintains individual’s hygiene, grooming, and dressing needs
