About the Role
The ABA Counselor-Education provides educational instruction to assigned students in a structured classroom environment designed to promote intellectual, emotional, and social growth. They assist in developing teaching plans appropriate for children and adolescents (ages 3-21 years) with emotional, developmental, and/or behavioral needs. Melmark New England serves individuals with autism spectrum disorders, acquired brain injury, neurological diseases and disorders, comorbid mental health disorders, and severe needs.
Responsibilities
- Deliver educational instruction in a structured classroom setting.
- Develop and implement teaching plans tailored to students' ages and needs.
- Support the intellectual, emotional, and social growth of students with emotional, developmental, and/or behavioral challenges.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including Nursing, Vocational, Clinical, Residential, and Allied Health Services.
- Work with families and accrediting agencies/school districts.
Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Human Service Field, or Psychology.
- Valid U.S. driver's license and minimum age of 21 years.
- Capable of attaining approved Melmark driver status.
- Must pass Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) background check.
- Successful completion of employer-provided certification in CPR, First Aid, Crisis Intervention, and Melmark's Orientation and New Hire Onsite training programs.
Qualifications
- Strong reading, written, and oral language skills.
- Teaching skills focused on students who are emotionally, behaviorally, physically, and/or developmentally challenged.
- Experience or interest in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), curriculum development, and special education, particularly for Autism Spectrum Disorders.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Preferred: At least one (1) year of experience with specialized populations.
- Advanced skills in educational and clinical services are required for this role.
Pay
$28–$31 per hour, contingent on years of valid experience with the population served.
