About the role
This role contributes to the Y's mission by supporting daily camp operations, promoting, modeling, and implementing behavior management strategies for camp staff and campers with the focus on mental health.
Responsibilities
- Support daily camp operations by assisting in the overall health and safety of camp staff and campers with the focus on mental health.
- Promote, model, and implement behavior management strategies for Camp Directors, Camp Leaders and campers and their families.
- Leverage enthusiasm in supervising, participating with and engaging campers to create a high quality, fun camper experience.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to campers with unique behavioral needs.
- Help implement behavior strategies as part of a fun and inclusive camp experience.
- Collaborate with camp staff to ensure a safe and positive environment for all.
Requirements
- An interest in the well-being of camp age children.
- Enthusiasm, patience, good humor, good judgment and a good spirit.
- The ability to clearly communicate and effectively listen to children, parents/guardians, members and other Y associates.
- Prior experience working with youth, preferably in a counseling or social work capacity.
- A bachelor’s degree or higher (preferred), or currently enrolled in an accredited clinical mental health counseling graduate program or related discipline.
Qualifications
- Must agree to abide by The Code of Conduct with Youth.
- Must complete training on child abuse prevention and comply with legal reporting requirements.
