A-Repairman Locksmith

About the role

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is seeking an experienced A-Repairman-Locksmith to handle the installation, repair, and maintenance of locks, locking systems, door closure devices, and locking devices on all types of doors and equipment at State facilities. This role involves pinning lock tumblers to key systems and devices for individual suite, master, or grant master series. Employees work under the direction of a Physical Plant Supervisor or other designated official, with work evaluated on completeness, timeliness, accuracy, and record-keeping of key recipients and key codes. This position does not normally supervise others.

Responsibilities

• Installing, programming, troubleshooting, inspecting, and diagnosing access control systems, including adjusting and repairing locks along with completing preventative maintenance schedules
• Cutting keys both manually and mechanically using code cards, including performing overhauling of locks and associated electrical/mechanical devices with minimal supervision
• Maintaining all records, forms, and security documents in accordance with MTA requirements
• Installing and configuring dual access alarms, cameras, access control systems, CAT cables, and pulling and terminating cables
• Routinely supporting and installing components, troubleshooting doors and gates remotely, including configuring, programming, and supporting various Access Control software
• Collaborating with team, team Lead, and Management to plan and execute setup of complex access control systems within schedule and timely delivery
• Ensuring all installations meet electrical standards and comply with local codes
• Running low voltage cabling in commercial buildings, including drilling concrete walls and limited conduit bending work
• Completing all wiring, connections/terminations, and equipment installations ensuring Access Control and Intrusion systems are complete
• Mounting sensors at appropriate locations, performing necessary tasks such as drilling holes for cabling and accessing locations like crawlspaces or attics
• Testing to ensure all newly installed access control systems and component devices are operational and adhere to all required project safety requirements, codes, and regulations
• Adhering to all safety rules, policies, regulations, and personal protective equipment requirements
• Attending and participating in safety meetings, being aware of hazards in work area, and reporting hazards, unsafe acts, near misses, injuries, and accidents immediately

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of experience working as an Access Control technician and a Locksmith
• Three (3) years working experience with electronics, low voltage, networks, communications devices, door and locking hardware, alarm devices, Access Control technology and software with emphasis on card access systems
• Three (3) years working experience with Microsoft Office suite of products — MS Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook
• Comprehensive knowledge of electrical systems involved in the installation of surveillance cameras, alarms, and access control systems (e.g., Vanderbilt, Lenel, etc.)
• Proficiency with electrical and locksmith tools, diagnostic equipment, and safety gear
• Ability to work in various environments, manage the physical requirements of the job, and adhere to safety standards
• Strong communication and team coordination abilities to lead smaller projects and assist on larger ones
• Ability to assist with pre-installation, designing, and planning technical solutions
• Well-versed in installing and configuring various locksets (strikes, maglocks, IP/PoE locksets)
• Able to read and understand wiring diagrams and schematics as well as system architectures for multiple platforms
• Ability to proficiently use an electrical multimeter, basic, specialized, and powered hand tools
• Ability to work well independently with minimal assistance and successfully delegate tasks and responsibilities to other team members

Certifications

• Certified Professional Locksmith (CPL) certificate from a locksmith school approved by the Associated Locksmiths of America, Inc. (ALOA.org)
• Electronics associate diploma from an accredited institution

Licenses

• Current valid Class "A" Restricted Learners Permit and valid DOT Medical Certification at time of hire/transfer
• Must be able to obtain a Class "A" Restricted CDL License within the (90) days probation period

Examination

Qualified applicants will be notified and required to take a written examination and a practical skill test.

Pay & schedule

Local 1300 bargaining unit position. Service fee may be required for exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
