About the role

In 2022, USA Jet Airlines established USA Jet Power to support its fleet of jet engines and provide services to other operators and leasing companies. USA Jet Power is a 14 CFR Part 145 Air Agency Repair Station located in Oscoda, Michigan, authorized to perform maintenance, inspection and testing on Pratt and Whitney JT8D turbofan engines certificated for Boeing 727, 737, Douglas DC-9 and MD88 aircraft. The facility is a state‑of‑the‑art 51,000 sq ft space that houses engine repair operations and parts warehousing.

Responsibilities

• Report directly to Lead Mechanics or Director of Operations at the USA Jet Power Maintenance Base (or to Maintenance Control at an outstation).
• Perform overhaul, maintenance, and repair of powerplants and associated components in accordance with USA Jet Power manuals, manufacturer manuals, bulletins, and orders.
• Sign for work accomplished.
• Remain constantly alert for defective, worn, or failed parts and ensure safe working conditions.
• Assist with housekeeping duties such as policing the work area and repairing/maintaining company property.
• Actively participate in USA Jet Safety Programs and report safety concerns promptly.
• Ensure that you and coworkers perform functions in the safest possible manner, following OSHA standards with legal authority at the work location.
• Carry out all tasks assigned by your Lead or Senior Manager.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Current airframe and powerplant (A&P) certificate.
• Minimum one (1) year of aviation experience, including Jet Engine Shop experience or one (1) year experience on JT8D type engines (1‑17AR, ‑200 series).
• Knowledge of all applicable regulatory requirements.
• Possess any valid ratings required for the specific work to be performed.
• Be properly qualified and authorized before performing duties for USA Jet Power.

• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to work effectively both in a team and independently.
• Must remain calm during adverse conditions.
• Ability to think and react quickly with a sense of urgency in time‑sensitive problem situations.
• Detailed organizational skills.
• Computer software knowledge of key Microsoft Office platforms (Outlook, Word, Excel) preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Physical demands: frequently required to walk, stand, reach/handle items, work with hands, lift/move 10‑20 pounds, and talk/hear in person or via phone; occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and lift/move items up to 20‑50 pounds.
• Noise level is usually moderate, increasing to loud in the test cell and rotor shop areas.

Additional Considerations

• Must be able to travel on short notice for line maintenance and/or aircraft recovery/repairs; maintain an overnight bag ready for indefinite periods.
• Maintain a valid U.S./state driver’s license and a valid passport (U.S. or other nation) within 90 days of hire, at employee’s expense.
• Must be physically able to operate company vehicles and equipment on airport and over‑the‑road.
• Possess the minimum tools as outlined on the departmental tool list.
• Complete the TSA Security Training Program provided by USA Jet Airlines; occasional travel may be required after training.
• Successfully pass initial and random FAA drug and alcohol screening.
• Undergo a fingerprint‑based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) and/or Security Threat Assessment (STA) as required by TSA.
