A Lineman - Transmission (GTC)

Position Summary

The Class A Lineman is a safety-focused professional responsible for constructing and repairing electrical transmission systems. This role involves working on energized and de-energized powerlines and may require travel to various job sites, including out-of-state locations.

Essential Functions

• Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of energized and de-energized transmission systems while prioritizing safety.
• Lead crew members in the absence of the Employee in Charge and conduct pre-job and tailgate safety briefings.
• Train and mentor apprentices and ground workers.
• Install and repair overhead transmission lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
• Comprehensively understand switching and tagging procedures, EPZ-grounding, and induced voltage on de-energized lines using appropriate tools and test equipment.
• Climb different structures (wood, steel, concrete) using approved climbing methods and equipment.
• Work at heights and in proximity to energized equipment.
• Willing and capable to obtain knowledge in bare hand work – 44kV and 500kV.
• Proficient in all aspects of heavy lifting and rigging.
• Operate and maintain bucket trucks, digger derricks, tensioners, pullers, and other transmission line equipment.
• Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather.
• Available to work outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotations.
• Follow all safety protocols including PPE use and possess a comprehensive understanding of insulated protective covers to isolate differences of potential on energized lines.

Minimum Requirements

• Five (5) years of recent transmission line experience.
• Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
• Willing to travel long distances on short notice.
• Lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Work for extended periods at different job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
• Willing to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.

Physical Demands

• Frequently stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle objects, operate tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
• Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration.
• Occasional exposure to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites.
• Noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
• Perform job responsibilities in extreme heat, cold, wet, windy, and storm conditions.
