A Lineman - Overhead (SECO)
Position Summary
The Class A Lineman is a safety-focused professional responsible for constructing and repairing electrical overhead distribution systems. This role involves working on energized and de-energized powerlines and may require travel to various job sites, including out-of-state locations, as needed.
About the Role
Reports to the Foreman, this position requires a combination of technical skills and leadership abilities. The Lineman will be expected to lead crew members, train apprentices and groundmen, and perform a wide range of tasks including new construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead power lines.
Responsibilities
- Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
- Lead crew members during job activities and conduct pre-job and tailgate safety briefings.
- Train and mentor apprentices and groundmen in safe practices and techniques.
- Install and repair overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
- Operate and maintain bucket trucks, digger derricks, tensioners, pullers, and other overhead line equipment.
- Work outdoors in various environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather.
- Respond to outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotations as needed.
- Perform live-line work using approved glove techniques and hot-stick methods on energized lines, including troubleshooting and fault locating.
- Follow all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Requirements
- Five (5) years of recent overhead line experience.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to travel long distances on short notice.
- Work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
- Available to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates should have a comprehensive knowledge of switching and tagging procedures, grounding, and induced voltage on energized and de-energized lines. They must also demonstrate proficiency in climbing different structures using approved climbing methods and equipment.
Skills
Strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills are essential. Proficiency in using test equipment and maintaining a high standard of safety are also crucial.
