About the role

The Class A Lineman is responsible for constructing, maintaining, and repairing electrical overhead distribution systems. This position involves working at various locations and may require travel to other states based on customer needs.

Responsibilities

  • Works safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work on energized and de-energized overhead lines.
  • Learns and leads crew members in the absence of the Foreman.
  • Strings overhead wires, sets poles and anchors, installs transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
  • Troubleshoots issues in primary and secondary systems, replaces cutout fuses, clears faulted circuits and systems.
  • Frequently works with energized high voltage systems, requiring skill and care to ensure safety.
  • Maintains company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good condition.
  • Identifies primary and secondary voltages on a circuit, understands induced voltage, grounding procedures, and climbing techniques.
  • Plans safe work based on job prints or work orders, understands how to obtain a one-shot on a recloser, conducts pre-job or tailgate briefings, and performs reconductoring jobs.
  • Safely installs and removes mechanical jumpers, uses a load bust tool, and understands grounding procedures.
  • Willing to glove and work live high voltage distribution power lines, performs rigorous physical labor, and works in various locations, including outside in inclement weather.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of recent field experience.
  • Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of employment.
  • A Commercial Driver’s License is preferred.
  • Able to travel long distances on short notice and work extended periods in various locations.
  • Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Able to properly inspect rubber goods and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Willing to work over-time and outside of the normal work schedule, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear, stand, walk, use hands to fingers, handle, and feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud, and the position is performed in outside weather conditions.
