#942- LaGrange Certified Aide: M-F, 7:30am-3:15pm (7.25 hrs/day) when school is in session

About the Role

This position involves working with students who have special education needs, including emotional, learning, cognitive, physical, behavioral, or orthopedic needs. The role requires handling aggressive or potentially violent outbursts, physically restraining children if necessary, and assisting with toileting or diaper changes.

Responsibilities

• Work with children in special education programs, providing instructional and behavioral management follow-through.
• Monitor and address potentially hazardous situations in special or regular education classrooms.
• Supervise students throughout the day, including before school, at lunch, and during recess.
• Implement behavior management strategies and techniques in regular education settings.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or teacher.

Requirements

• High School diploma required.
• Must be licensed or qualified to receive certification as a Special Education Aide per DPI regulations.
• Must pass all portions of the District Teacher Aide Test.
• Experience with individuals having disabilities (through college training or work experience) is desirable.
• Strong desire to work with special education students.
• Ability to handle aggressive behavior and physically restrain children if necessary.
• Exceptional emotional control and good judgment in volatile situations.
• Physical strength to assist with student needs, including toileting or diaper changes.
• Interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, co-workers, teachers, administrators, and the public.

Skills

• Background in behavior management (desirable).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to exercise good judgment in high-pressure situations.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM – 3:15 PM (7.25 hours/day) when school is in session.

Pay

Wage will be in compliance with the employee handbook for the time worked.
