92G Food Service Specialist

About the role

As a Food Service Specialist for the Army National Guard, you will provide the sustenance your fellow Soldiers need to perform their duties and protect the nation. You will manage all dietary and nutritional needs, ensuring Soldiers are prepared to face challenges. This includes planning and preparing menus, cooking and serving food, and maintaining food safety and facility sanitation for groups ranging from 25 to 2,500 Soldiers, whether in the field or a fixed facility.

Responsibilities

• Prepare meals using Army recipes by baking, frying, braising, boiling, simmering, steaming, and sautéing
• Operate, maintain, and clean field kitchen equipment
• Perform preventive maintenance on garrison and field kitchen equipment
• Plan and prepare standard and dietetic menus
• Order food and supplies
• Store meats, poultry, and other perishable items

Helpful skills include an interest in cooking, home economics, health, mathematics, accounting, and chemistry. This training prepares you for civilian careers in restaurants or organizations with dining facilities, such as cook, chef, meat cutter, butcher, or baker.

Training

Food Service Specialist job training includes 10 weeks of Basic Training to learn fundamental Soldiering skills, followed by nine weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT), split between classroom instruction and field practice.

Most non-prior service candidates will earn between $200 and $250 per drill weekend, subject to change.

Requirements

• Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
• Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or GED certificate
• Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
• Must pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
