92G Food Service Specialist

About the Role

As a Food Service Specialist for the Army National Guard, you will provide the sustenance your fellow Soldiers need to perform at their best. This role involves planning, preparing, and serving meals, as well as ensuring food safety and facility sanitation for groups ranging from 25 to 2,500 Soldiers, whether in the field or in a fixed facility.

Responsibilities

• Bake, fry, braise, boil, simmer, steam, and sauté according to Army recipes.
• Operate, maintain, and clean field kitchen equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance on garrison and field kitchen equipment.
• Plan and prepare standard and dietetic menus and recipes.
• Order food and supplies and manage storage of meats, poultry, and other perishable items.

Civilian career opportunities include roles in restaurants or organizations with dining facilities, such as cook, chef, meat cutter, butcher, or baker.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (see NATIONALGUARD.com for details).
• Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
• Must be between the ages of 17 and 35.
• Must pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards.
• Requires military enlistment in the Army National Guard.

Training

Food Service Specialist job training includes 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you’ll learn fundamental Soldiering skills, followed by nine weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT), split between classroom instruction and field experience.
