About the Role

As a Small Arms/Artillery Repairer in the Army National Guard, you will maintain the electronic systems that keep weapons—from handguns and shotguns to sniper rifles and ballistic missiles—operational on the battlefield.

Through training, you will develop skills applicable to civilian careers as an electronic mechanic, avionics technician, or missile facilities repairer with firms that design, build, and test weapons for the military.

Skills You’ll Learn

  • Electronic and mechanical principles and concepts
  • Understanding schematics, drawings, blueprints, and wiring diagrams
  • Operating electronic, electrical, and mechanical test equipment

Helpful Skills

  • Preference for work requiring accuracy and attention to detail
  • Interest in working with weapons

Training

Job training consists of 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you’ll learn basic Soldiering skills, followed by 7 weeks of Advanced Individual Training, combining classroom instruction and field work.

Instead of paying to learn these skills, you will earn a regular paycheck while training and qualify for tuition assistance.

Most non-prior service candidates will earn between $200 and $250 per drill weekend, subject to change.

Requirements

  • Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
  • Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or a GED certificate
  • Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
  • Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
  • Must meet citizenship requirements (see NATIONALGUARD.com for details)
