About the role

This senior mechanic works in the Facilities Maintenance Bureau and is responsible for repairing and maintaining heating system equipment, air conditioning systems, and ventilating systems; monitoring and diagnosing the operation of systems and equipment through the use of Direct Digital Control (DDC) Building Automated System (BAS) in County buildings. The employee also inspects and maintains the building exterior and interior and assists in the development of routine corrective and preventive maintenance duties to be performed by staff.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor work in progress and provide technical guidance and direction to other technicians
  • Order repair parts
  • Diagnose equipment problems
  • Repair and maintain air handling units, chillers, cabinet unit heaters, low and high pressure boilers and similar equipment
  • Test and replace digital control panels, thermostats, sensors, transmitters, controllers, relays, automatic valves and dampers
  • Use computer controlled BAS systems to evaluate and make adjustments to temperatures and humidity in buildings throughout the County to ensure proper comfort levels are maintained at all times
  • Inform clients of HVAC problems and repair schedules
  • Operate a County vehicle to perform assigned duties away from primary worksite

Requirements

  • Universal CFC Recovery License
  • HVAC Mechanic Journeyman’s license from Virginia, Maryland or the District of Columbia

Qualifications

  • Experience using and operating automated building systems by Siemens and Trane
  • Experience servicing boilers
  • Experience in the repair and maintenance of HVAC equipment in commercial buildings

Preference may be given to candidates with experience in the repair and maintenance of HVAC equipment at multiple sites.

Special Requirements

  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license from the applicant’s place of residence
  • Authorization for Arlington County to obtain, or provision of, an official state/district driving record

Schedule

  • Work hours: 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • Shift may change depending on departmental need
  • Availability for call back and willingness to work after normal duty hours in emergency situations
