About the role

The Hendricks County 911 Communications Officer is responsible for handling emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching appropriate personnel, and maintaining public relations. The position offers a probationary hourly rate of $28 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and assesses emergency and non-emergency calls, gathering information and dispatching emergency personnel.
  • Comforts emotionally distraught persons and provides instructions.
  • Maintains training requirements and public relations.
  • Maintains radio networks, responds to requests, and transmits information.
  • Verifies, enters, maintains, and retrieves IDACS/NCIC information.
  • Processes various records and information for law enforcement and related departments.
  • Maintains communications systems and equipment, and monitors security systems.
  • Provides pre-arrival instructions and road/weather information.
  • Page all required fire department runs and processes warrants and reports.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Emergency Medical Dispatcher and Communications Training Officer certifications required.
  • Previous dispatch or call center experience desired.

Qualifications

  • Computer software skills required: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Computer-Aided Dispatch.
  • A working knowledge of public safety information systems, radio equipment, and communication equipment.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and make sound decisions.
  • A general understanding of report writing and the ability to maintain relationships with residents and vendors.
  • CPR/AED certification required.
  • The ability to remain current with required licenses, certifications, and in-service requirements.
  • The ability to operate office equipment and speak/write in English.

Benefits

Probationary 911 Communications Officer pay is $28 per hour. 11.5-hour shifts, 2-2-3 holidays, and 88 hours per week are offered.

Pay

$28 per hour for the first year of employment. Salary increases based on performance and experience.

Schedule

11.5-hour shifts, rotating weekends and holidays.
