About the role
The position involves teaching courses in Health Information Management, utilizing electronic health record systems, and maintaining currency in the field.
Responsibilities
- Teach courses in Health Information Management in traditional, hybrid, and distance learning formats.
- Teach 15 credit hours and 15-20 contact hours per semester.
- Conduct student conferences and hold office hours.
- Participate in curriculum development and maintain current competence in the field.
- Adhere to professional ethics and policies.
- Use emerging technologies and alternative delivery methods to enhance classroom instruction.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Health Administration, Health Law, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and computer-assisted coding.
- AHIMA certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
- Minimum of two years of full-time experience in using, teaching, and implementing Electronic Health Record systems.
- Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats.
- Commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment.
- Research experience in an academic or professional setting.
- Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.
- Teaching experience of 5+ years in a HIM academic program and/or administrative experience in clinical practice management.
- Experience developing web-based training for distance learning.
- Active involvement in clinical practice.
- Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, or Health Law or another healthcare-related field.
- Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats.
