About the role

The 8th Grade Language Arts/Reading Teacher position at Jr. High within Southeast Polk Community School District requires a minimum provisional certificate from the Iowa Department of Education and a minimum BA/BS degree endorsed to meet the needs of the specific assignment. Preference is given to candidates with successful experience at the assignment/subject/level.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Participate in curriculum writing, staff development, and professional development as required.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Accept such alternatives to the duties above that the Board finds acceptable.

  • Days of employment: 180 student days, 10 in-service days, 5 holidays, 8 hour work day.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Provisional Certificate issued by the Iowa Department of Education.
  • Minimum BA/BS degree endorsed to meet the needs of the specific assignment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency to perform specific assignment.
  • Preference given to successful experience at assignment/subject/level.

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the building principal according to the guidelines of the master contract.
