Head for the Cure is a nonprofit brain cancer research foundation hosting its 8th Annual 5K to fund brain cancer research, locally benefiting UPMC Hillman Cancer Center and BCA. This family-friendly event welcomes walkers and runners alike, featuring local vendors, music, kid's entertainment, snacks, awards for runners, and a program honoring survivors, caregivers, and healthcare heroes. We need 50 volunteers to help make this event possible.

- Teens, groups, individuals 55+, and corporate groups welcome
- Training provided for all volunteer roles
- Celebration includes local vendors, music, kid's entertainment, snacks, awards, and a special program
Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities
- Course Monitors
- Must be 18+
- Stand on course and direct runners and walkers
- Cheer participants as they pass
- Familiarity with the area helpful but not required (course map provided)
- Packet Pick Up Check-In
- Date: August 8, 2026
- Schedule: Weekends (Saturdays and Sundays), daytime hours
- Check in pre-registered participants
- Distribute running bibs and event t-shirts
- Day Of Registration
- Register participants on the day of the event
- Create timing bibs for day-of registrants
- Collect day-of donations
- Water Station
- Place water in troughs and refill water/ice as needed
- Hand water to participants as they cross the finish line
- Set Up
- Set up tents, tables, and decorations before the event
- Help unload supplies from the truck
- Assistance needed from all volunteers; no heavy lifting required for some tasks
- Tear Down
- Fold up tents, tables, and put away decorations
- Help load supplies back onto the truck
- Assistance needed from all volunteers; no heavy lifting required for some tasks
- Food Tent
- Set up and staff the coffee and food tent for the entire event
- Refill cups, sugars, and other supplies
- Maintain cleanliness of the station
- Help serve guests
