873 - 1st Shift Inbound Material Handler - $23.50/hr
About the role
The Inbound Material Handler is responsible for unloading, checking in, and stocking new inventory into the warehouse. These tasks must be completed to an efficient and accurate standard to ensure smooth inbound operations. This position requires use of internal warehouse systems and various warehouse equipment, including Powered Industrial Trucks. Cross-training opportunities may be available.
Responsibilities
- Unload live domestic deliveries from trailers using forklift equipment, or unload import containers by hand
- Use internal systems to systematically receive inventory accurately and efficiently, ready to be placed in storage racking
- Move palletized product using forklift equipment to organize the receiving dock or transport product to other areas of the Distribution Center
- Scan and place inventory in racking locations using forklift equipment and a handheld scanning device, ready for warehouse operations
- Maintain inventory by replenishing stock, verifying product accuracy, and supporting efficient warehouse operations
- Manage overstock, investigate discrepancies, adjust inventory records, and complete routine inventory control tasks and reporting
- Operate warehouse equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, scanners, and computers, following all established protocols and promoting safe working standards
- Meet all expected performance standards regarding efficiency, accuracy, and quality of work
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by following all safety guidelines and reporting any hazards to the appropriate leadership
- Work closely with team members and leadership to meet daily, weekly, and monthly departmental goals
- Abide by all company and warehouse policies
- Flex into other positions and departments and undertake additional duties as necessary to support the overall operation
Requirements
- 1 year of relevant experience in a distribution environment; receiving and/or inventory experience preferred but not required
- Ability to operate warehouse equipment, including forklifts, order pickers, etc.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to quickly adapt as business needs change; ability to address difficult situations with diplomacy and emotional intelligence
- Customer service-oriented attitude with a demonstrated desire to exceed expectations
- Work well individually or in a team environment for a full shift of 10 hours
- Business proficiency in the ability to read, write, and communicate in English
Physical Requirements
- Work is performed while standing and/or walking, up to and including 12 hours/day
- Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing
- Requires the regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations
- Requires regular bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching
- Requires the ability to regularly lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 75 lbs
Working Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. Occasional activities may involve exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The passage of employees through the work area is average and normal.
Pay
Starting wage is $23.50/hr, with potential raises every 6 months of up to $0.88.
