7TH GRADE FOOTBALL COACH - The District reserves the right to split this position between two qualified candidates.

About the Role

Assist with supervision of all phases of the football program, including planning, strategy, and instruction in fundamentals. Responsible for the care and issuance of all football equipment used by the team.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with high school coaching staff(s) and attend meetings or mini clinics at high school(s) to ensure continuity in the DCSD 7-12 grade boys' football program.
• Understand, monitor, and enforce district academic standards, policies, and eligibility requirements.
• Develop players to their fullest potential, starting with the basic fundamentals of football and progressing to advanced skills.
• Promote good sportsmanship among student-athletes.
• Complete required reports and records accurately and in a timely manner.
• Maintain thorough knowledge of and responsibility for the athletic policy approved by the Board of Education.
• Supervise players at all practices, games, in the locker room, and on the bus.
• Work cooperatively with the building Activity Director and the Director of Athletics for Davenport Community Schools.
• Support and implement Davenport's multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for behavior and academics.
• Build rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches their full potential.
• Perform any additional duties as assigned by administration.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties.
• Must occasionally lift, move, or push items up to 50 lbs., such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture.
• Supervise students in all types of weather, both indoors and outdoors.
• Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
• Implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including appropriate physical restraint procedures and escorting.

Work Environment

• Noise level ranges from quiet to loud.
• Work may be indoors and/or outdoors, including non-air-conditioned rooms.
• Substance-free and fast-paced environment with constant contact with students, staff, or the public.
• Direct responsibility for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid Iowa Coaching Authorization or Iowa Teaching License with Coaching Endorsement.
• Experience with competition/success at the state level is desired.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students.
• Good attendance and punctuality are required.
• Enthusiastic attitude and ability to understand intermediate-aged youth in an athletic setting.
