68A Medical Equipment Repairer

For healthcare personnel to detect, diagnose, and treat patients properly, they need functioning equipment. That’s where you come in. As a Medical Equipment Repairer in the Army National Guard, you will service and maintain all medical equipment to ensure Soldiers receive the best health care possible.

About the role

The equipment you'll work with may involve mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, digital, optical, and radiological principles.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance checks
• Troubleshoot malfunctioning or defective medical equipment
• Determine power and space requirements for medical equipment installations
• Install medical equipment
• Prepare and submit medical equipment reports

Skills

• Use and maintenance of electrical and electronic test equipment
• Equipment repair
• Experience working with electronic equipment
• Interest in mathematics and solving problems
• Strong attention to detail

Civilian career opportunities

Through your training, you will develop skills and experience to pursue a civilian career as an electronic instrument repairer with:

With additional study, you may qualify for the International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians certification as a Certified Electronics Technician at the Associate Level or Journeyman Level-Medical.

Training

Job training consists of 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you will learn basic Soldiering skills, and 41 weeks of Advanced Individual Training, including practice in repairing and replacing equipment parts. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field.

Most non-prior service candidates will earn between $200 and $250 per drill weekend, subject to change.

Requirements

• Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
• Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or a GED certificate
• Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
• Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
