About the Role

At Lids, our Assistant Store Managers are the heart and soul of the Lids brand. These cap experts strive to foster the passion for sporting and fashion goods by meeting the needs of our customers while ensuring that all areas of the store are engaged. Assistant Store Managers are accountable for every aspect of the retail store performance, including achieving key results, creating a fun and inclusive environment for their team, and delivering exceptional customer service by offering their expertise on Lids’ products and services.

Responsibilities

  • People & Training:
    • Act as Manager on duty for employee scheduling issues, customer complaints, etc., when Store Manager is not present.
    • Manage store associates through LIDS Training Programs, goal setting, and regular follow-up in the absence of the Store Manager.
    • Administer progressive discipline steps, including verbal and written warnings, when the Store Manager is not present.
    • Engage team members by creating a fun and productive environment, helping them understand how their work supports company objectives.
    • Contribute to a respectful and inclusive team environment by adhering to Lids Brand Standards.
    • Responsible for scheduling and staffing the store, including calling in associates for unexpected peaks when the Store Manager is not present.
    • Participate in LIDS Training Programs, adhere to set goals, and follow up regularly.
    • Assist in recruiting and training store personnel on proper store operations and procedures.
    • Encourage direct compliance with company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Customer Experience:
    • Lead, execute, and assist Lids selling strategy to achieve KPIs, sales targets, and deliver exceptional customer service.
    • Resolve customer feedback and address issues in the moment, including escalations and urgent requests.
    • Ensure every customer is offered the opportunity to participate in Lids membership programs or special in-store offers.
    • Adhere to visual guidelines for merchandising, signage, and store cleanliness.
    • Maintain a professional appearance consistent with the Company Dress Code Policy.
  • Operations:
    • Execute company-level directives, promotions, and initiatives.
    • Understand and adhere to the Policies & Procedures Manual to maintain a safe work environment.
    • Maintain store technology and equipment (MPOS, Lids Custom, etc.) through daily audits and updates.
    • Maintain store facilities, supplies, and services by executing service requests and assessing maintenance needs.
    • Manage cash, including opening and closing the till, using counterfeit protection practices, and making bank drops.
    • Prepare the store for inventory audits and support in performing them.
    • Open and close the store following procedures per the Operations P&P Manual.
  • Product & Inventory Management:
    • Protect Company assets within LIDS Retail policies.
    • Assist in preparing store work schedules to provide proper coverage and adhere to wage control guidelines.
    • Follow policies to manage store inventory, including receiving, transferring, price changes, and product counts.
    • Strategically organize the backroom to maximize efficiency.
    • Execute optimal layout and visual merchandising strategies, including window activations and seasonal changes.
    • Maintain the look and feel of the store through daily VM actions.
    • Execute special pricing signage and promotional adjustments during operating hours.

Qualifications

  • Established ability to produce sales results while minimizing loss.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and clear, professional verbal communication.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.

Physical Demands & Requirements

  • Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally climb a ladder and work with hands overhead.
  • Constantly stand and frequently walk on shift.
  • Frequently hear and communicate verbally with customers and employees.
  • Frequently visually observe the store and read written or digital information.
  • Frequently operate a computer and mobile Point-of-Sale system.
