The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for advocating and supporting adults 22 and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities by empowering them to be as active in their lives as they can. Their support needs include, but are not limited to, household maintenance, meal prep, shopping, bathing, toileting, dressing, teeth brushing, etc…so that they may always look and feel their best. The DSP may be asked to assist them to their medical appointments, banking, assist them to become active members of their community, attend outings, administer medications, follow Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans and goals, and to follow medical guidelines that are in place. DSP workers are provided paid New Employee Orientation, paid CPR/First Aid, PABC, Defensive Driving, and Medication Administration Program (MAP), as well as program and person specific training at the individuals’ home. The DSP must be able to safely evacuate individuals from the home in the event of an emergency. DSP workers must maintain certifications, handle job related duties in compliance with Agency policies and follow all DDS regulations/policies.

Responsibilities

• Assist with household maintenance, meal preparation, and shopping
• Provide personal care including bathing, toileting, dressing, and oral hygiene
• Accompany individuals to medical appointments and banking
• Support community integration and attendance at outings
• Administer medications according to guidelines
• Follow Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans, and established goals
• Adhere to medical guidelines and DDS regulations/policies
• Safely evacuate individuals from the home in emergencies
• Maintain required certifications and complete ongoing training
• Comply with agency policies and procedures

Requirements

• Age 21 or older with reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
• High School Diploma or GED
• Commitment to assisting people with varying disabilities to participate fully in their community and in their own lives
• Varied interests and personal connections in the local community
• Proven record of conscientious, responsible behavior (work, volunteer, or school history)
• Ability to work as a creative, engaged, dedicated member of the team
• Must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job
• Ability to speak, read, and write in fluent English
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule to meet program needs, including holidays, overnights, or double-shifts

Pay

$17.50 – $19.00 per hour

Schedule

Sunday 9:00 AM – 11:00 PM; Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM; Thursday 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Full-time: 40 hours per week.
