About the role
Seaside Charter Schools (SSC) embrace the whole child – Head, Heart, and Hands – through an education that integrates each child’s creative, intellectual, emotional, physical, and social domains. Seaside employs an interdisciplinary liberal arts program inspired by Waldorf principles where art, music, and movement are integrated with core academic instruction. Seaside was the first established (and now also the largest) public Waldorf institution in the Southeast USA.
Responsibilities
- Perform instruction for assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity levels and interests.
- Provide supervision to protect students from situations detrimental to learning or conditions that might be harmful to their physical and/or mental health and safety.
- Maintain accurate records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulations.
- Monitor potential student learning disabilities on an ongoing basis; seek assistance from designated specialists as required.
- Assist SSC administration in the implementation of any policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure; maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner; encourage students to maintain established standards of classroom behavior.
- Dedicate the necessary time for preparation, lesson plans, and grading papers outside of class instruction time.
- Provide reasonable availability to students and parents to discuss education-related matters outside the instructional day when required or requested.
- Effectively utilize teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) by providing them with purposeful assignments and supervising their activity; cooperate with department heads to evaluate the job performance of the teacher aide(s).
- Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Attend parent conferences in November and as requested throughout the school year.
- Attend mid-August and End of Year meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
- Florida Department of Education Certificate in an appropriate subject area.
- Knowledge of Public Waldorf pedagogy.
- Knowledge of childhood development (PreK-12).
- Knowledge of public-school requirements.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
Schedule
The teaching day schedule is 8 AM to 3:45 PM, with occasional evening and weekend work as scheduled.
