About the role
The 508 UAT Specialist ensures related applications meet federal accessibility requirements (Section 508), supports high-quality User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and delivers user-ready capabilities aligned with VA business needs for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Information and Technology (OIT), Product Delivery Services (PDS), Benefits and Memorials (BAM), and Memorial and Benefit Services (MBS).
This role oversees accessibility validation, supports independent test cycles, prepares test artifacts, ensures traceability across requirements and test cases, and partners with Agile teams to deliver defect-free, accessible, user-approved functionality. Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring all code changes undergo Section 508 compliance testing, including automated tooling and accessibility validation.
- Using automated 508 testing tools as part of the CI/CD pipeline and validation processes.
- Identifying, documenting, and remediating accessibility defects before production release.
- Supporting UAT by providing testers clear visibility into test-eligible features via Testing Dashboards.
- Providing technical and functional details to UAT, ISQA, and IV&V teams to support independent validation.
- Analyzing incidents arising from code quality, expired certificates, resource issues, human error, or accessibility barriers.
- Participating in Sprint Reviews, PI Planning, and other Agile ceremonies to incorporate accessibility and UAT considerations early.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or an IT-related field with 7-10 years of experience.
- Experience conducting Section 508 compliance testing, including automated and manual validation.
- Experience supporting UAT, ISQA, IV&V, and independent validation teams.
- Experience ensuring testing consistency across unit, functional, integration, and acceptance levels.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and maintaining SDLC traceability.
Skills
- Knowledge of Section 508 standards, WCAG criteria, assistive technology testing, and federal accessibility guidelines.
- Proficiency with automated 508 tools (e.g., Axe, WAVE, ANDI) and test dashboards used for UAT coordination.
- Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Section 508 or accessibility certifications.
- DHS Section 508 Trusted Tester certification.
- ISTQB or Quality Assurance certification.
- SAFe Agile certification (SP, SSM, PO/PM).
