About the Role
Drives a company vehicle to customer’s homes to perform repairs and/or assess needed repairs. Works with the warehouse team to prep and repair home furnishing products. Uses carpentry, upholstery, leather, and color matching skills to provide the best product to our customers.
Responsibilities
- Driving a company vehicle to customer’s homes, observing all traffic laws
- Following directed routes to ensure on-time arrival for customers
- Using effective communication skills and maintaining a professional demeanor with customers
- Maintaining cleanliness of the vehicle daily and performing daily safety inspections
- Inspecting vehicle equipment and supplies (tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, water) for proper maintenance
- Performing routine or simple maintenance on the vehicle, tools, and supplies
- Maintaining vehicle logs according to state and federal regulations
- Following safety guidelines and reporting unsafe incidents or concerns to the Warehouse Manager
- Inspecting merchandise for reported damage or defects
- Repairing, replacing, or adjusting damaged home furnishings with tools and chemicals
- Mixing and blending wood pigments to match original finishes
- Removing furniture finishes using applicable chemicals and/or sanding
- Painting, glazing, and/or refinishing home furnishing pieces to original vendor specifications
- Cleaning stained or soiled home furnishing pieces
- Repairing upholstery
- Assisting with inventory maintenance, preparation, and support
- Assisting the shop technician with repairs as needed
- Accurately completing all required paperwork
- Ensuring quality and timely completion of projects
- Keeping the vehicle and workspace clean and free of safety hazards
- Arriving to work according to schedule, timely and consistently
- Projecting a positive company image and adhering to Bassett’s Vision and Values
- Performing other related duties or special projects as assigned
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and a maintained clear driving record
- Commitment to Bassett’s Vision and Values at all times
- Flexibility in work schedule, including days and weekends
- Ability to safely drive a company-owned service van
- Ability to navigate through the service area to customer homes
- Knowledge of how to use a wireless tablet, iPad, or other company system-driven device
- Ability to lift and move products weighing up to 70 pounds without a lifting device
- Ability to lift and move products in excess of 70 pounds with an approved lifting device
- Physical abilities: walk, stand, sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, use and/or control tools, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear, see up close, in color, depth and distance vision, and adjust focus
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalency certificate
- Minimum of 1 year of cabinet carpentry, upholstery, and leather experience
- Artistic and color matching skills a plus
- Strong organizational skills
