4G/5G RAN Test Engineer IV

As a RAN Engineer IV, you will lead the design, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of Radio Access Network (RAN) systems, focusing on advanced wireless network technologies such as LTE and 5G. This senior-level role involves mentoring junior engineers, leading complex projects, and ensuring the highest levels of network performance and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Develop product validation, feature validation, systems, and performance analysis for LTE and 5G RAN products, with a focus on air interface, end-to-end performance, and call processing.
• Build and validate test plans for new 3GPP features in a lab environment.
• Perform L1 and L2 layer protocol analysis from both UE and RAN perspectives.
• Analyze product and feature requirements, converting them into system test cases to ensure compliance with customer specifications.
• Aid in product and feature performance analysis, including evaluation of new product and software releases.
• Perform detailed analysis of 4G and 5G wireless protocols.
• Analyze and troubleshoot technical issues.
• Educate customers on Samsung’s new products and services, both individually and in a team setting.
• Lead junior engineers in lab test execution and system integration.
• Ensure customer commitments are met according to plan.
• Collaborate with support organizations, logistics, and cross-functional teams from SEA and Samsung HQ to achieve successful new product roll-outs and developments.
• Travel sporadically during projects as required.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in engineering (required); a Master’s degree with 10–12 years of experience is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Computer Science (CS) (required).
• 12+ years of directly related experience.
• Strong understanding of 4G and 5G concepts, including DL/UL scheduling, LTE power control, beamforming fundamentals, MIMO, and ENDC.
• Working experience in analyzing SA and NRDC features.
• Deep knowledge of L1 and L2 layer protocol analysis.
• Good understanding of UE and RAN 3GPP specifications.
• Experience with inter-vendor configurations and IOT scenarios.
• Familiarity with ongoing 3GPP Rel 16 and 17 activities (beneficial).
• Experience with system testing activities, including feature validation, test description documentation, parameter optimization, performance analysis, test strategy creation, and problem troubleshooting.

Skills

• Strong knowledge of 4G and 5G air interface, call processing technologies, and RAN network architecture.
• Good understanding of wireless systems, with emphasis on PHY, MAC, RLC, RRC, and PDCP layers.
• Experience in lab testing and IOT testing (preferred).
• Experience with EMS systems, managing network elements, software upgrades, and MOP verification.
• Experience with software development (beneficial).
• Strong understanding of 3GPP systems, including Core and RAN networks.
• Proficiency with test tools such as protocol analyzers, XCAL/QXDM, Wireshark, channel emulators, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators.
• Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple projects and objectives.
• Work independently to determine personal work schedules and productivity goals.
• Collaborate in a team environment to achieve project milestones and complete assignments within established timeframes.
• Solve complex problems creatively when only broad guidelines are provided.
• Interact effectively at multiple levels within customer organizations.
• Negotiate and persuade others in potentially adversarial environments, including customer directors, managers, and staff with opposing views.
• Deliver results within established timeframes and requirements.
