About the Role

The 45 Ton Crane Operator is responsible for transporting material within the Mill using an overhead crane, ensuring safe and compliant operations during their shift.

Working conditions are typical for a manufacturing environment: hot in warm weather, cold in cool weather, and consistently greasy, dirty, and noisy. The role involves lifting, pulling, or pushing materials and products up to 50 pounds, as well as standing and walking considerable distances. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory, including eye safety glasses, hearing protection, work boots, and hard hats. Loose-fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.

Responsibilities

• Inspect cables or grappling devices for wear and tear.
• Perform a visual inspection of the crane before the beginning of the shift and report any issues to the Supervisor.
• Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload.
• Clean, lubricate, and maintain mechanisms such as cables, pulleys, or grappling devices, reporting repairs as necessary.
• Review daily work or delivery schedules to determine orders, sequences of deliveries, or special loading instructions.
• Load or unload pipe bundles from and to racks or move containers to storage bins using 45-ton crane equipment.
• Follow the 5S implementation procedure and all PPE policies and safety rules.
• Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify defects or issues.
• Monitor and review information from materials, events, or the environment to detect or assess problems.
• Maintain good housekeeping practices in the work area, keeping it free and clear of debris.
• Ensure all machinery is properly serviced before startup and during the shift.
• Assist in repair and replacement of equipment during maintenance shutdowns.
• Communicate with the crew to achieve a quality product.
• Assist in changeovers and mill stops.
• Operate a forklift as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

This position has the authority to stop 45-ton crane operations at any time for reasons of safety, quality, or priority.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent, with at least one year of experience operating a 45-ton overhead crane.
• Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.
• Manual dexterity for operating machinery, hand tools, and handheld technical devices.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures, and overhead crane operation.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include overtime.
