407-08 Direct Support Professional
About the role
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for advocating and supporting adults 22 and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities by empowering them to be as active in their lives as they can. Their support needs include, but are not limited to, household maintenance, meal prep, shopping, bathing, toileting, dressing, teeth brushing, etc…so that they may always look and feel their best. The DSP may be asked to assist them to their medical appointments, banking, assist them to become active members of their community, attend outings, administer medications, follow Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans and goals, and to follow medical guidelines that are in place. DSP workers must maintain certifications, handle job related duties in compliance with Agency policies and follow all DDS regulations/policies.
Responsibilities
- Advocate and support adults 22+ with intellectual and developmental disabilities to be active in their lives
- Assist with household maintenance, meal prep, shopping, bathing, toileting, dressing, teeth brushing
- Assist individuals to medical appointments and banking
- Support individuals to become active community members and attend outings
- Administer medications
- Follow Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans and goals
- Follow medical guidelines
- Safely evacuate individuals from the home in an emergency
- Maintain required certifications
- Comply with Agency policies and DDS regulations/policies
