401k Payroll Contribution Specialist

About the role

This position focuses on the “Money In” portion of the 401(k) process. The incumbent will process, reconcile, and trade all payroll files received, review related suspense accounts, and report on outstanding participant account balances regularly. The role involves extensive troubleshooting of payroll-related issues, initiating funding for payroll files, and ensuring the integrity of participant data. Regular communication with internal Account Managers/Client Service Consultants and occasional client communication is required. This is a remote position within the U.S.A.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new technical skills and expand knowledge of systems and recordkeeping software to improve client service and adapt to system changes.
  • Download payroll files uploaded by sponsor-to-sponsor web.
  • Track receipt of deposits.
  • Reconcile trust deposits with payroll files.
  • Process payrolls for plans through the Relius recordkeeping system.
  • Execute trades immediately upon receipt of file and matching deposit.
  • Record all trading activity and reconciliation in PlanConnect.
  • Resolve issues related to payroll processing, including under/over funding, eligibility, statutory limits, employer contributions, and loan payments.
  • Manage forfeitures on a per-payroll basis as required by the plan.
  • Complete all year-end processing requirements, including final reports, transactions, and census updates.
  • Ensure system and STATA files remain in sync with sponsor files and company needs.
  • Improve payroll processing efficiency and reduce sponsors' administrative burden by updating processing practices.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with plan sponsors, following up on outstanding payroll items.
  • Work with plan administrators and sponsors regarding contribution verification reports.
  • Collaborate with the SAS team on monitoring and execution of BluePrism payroll processing.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience required (e.g., 401k payroll or retirement plans).
  • Retirement plans experience strongly preferred.
